a painting of goddess Saraswati. the goddess of learning a typical tanjore style painting of 18th century. the goddess is seated on a throne backed with a cotton cylindrical bolster. she is holding the veena in the recital style. in her right hand, she holds the rosary and a bundle of manuscripts in her left hand. the smiling face is so graceful that every visitor to the library admires it. saraswati the goddess of speech is regarded as the sakti or consort of brahma.

an interesting and rare map of size 112*106 cms been showed. the title and other details are "A map of Hindustan or the Moghul Empire" from the latest authority inscribed to sir Joseph banks Bart, president of royal society which was produced by Mr.J.Rennel, a pioneer in map making on 1st jan 1788. in this map the coastal tamilnadu and some portions extended upto Ongole in Andhra pradesh are referred as the region of Carnatic. Hence the music flourished in this area has been called as Carnatic music. it is significant to note that this map indicates Adams bridge, which connects india and ceylon. Maclean in his glossary of madras presidency Gazetteers (vol.3 pate 5) mentioned that the bridge was used for foot traffic till 1480 A.D. later it was damaged by the breach. this map is one of the collections of maharajah serfoji 2
